Recovery

Recovery seems to be going pretty well. In fact, really well. On Tuesday, two days after the marathon, I ran a slow 10 miles. I have to admit it was pretty slow and I was feeling pretty sluggish but I still got it done. Today I got in 11 miles but at a decidedly faster pace. In fact I did a MP run with 9 of the 11 miles at 7:06 per mile. My HR was really pretty low but towards the end my legs were feeling tired so I stopped. I guess my legs haven't recovered quite as quickly. I also did a little weight lifting and a little swimming on Monday. Just enough to get loose.

My more astute readers will notice that I have changed my April marathon. On the right you'll notice it says that I'm now training for the Earth Day Challenge marathon. I was originally planning on the Oklahoma City Memorial marathon but I read too many horror stories about the hot and windy Spring weather that Oklahoma is known for. I got scared. So now I'm all signed up for this small one in Ohio. It has a limit of 200 for the full, 300 for the half. Should be interesting. The only hill is in the first mile and then it is flat the rest of the way. Negative split potential? I think so.

Finally I have to say that the photo from my last post was taken by my wife. Trust me, none of the "official" ones were worth keeping, much less buying. Why is that always the case? Maybe because I knew where my wife was and was able to smile at her but I didn't notice any of the other photographers so I was just running. I'd much rather bring my own personal photographer and fan club anyway.

My "official" photos always look like I'm on the verge of death, probably cuz I am. I liked that photo your wife took, very nice!! Well, you certainly can crank out the miles so close after a marathon, just be careful not to get injured. That race on the side looks interesting....I've never run a marathon that small so I'm anxious to hear how you like it! Happy almost weekend!! :)

That is a fast recovery!
The 200 limit is funny/crazy. Why would you go to all the trouble of putting on a full marathon and then only let 200 people run it? Good thing they're not in Japan - 260,000 people applied for the Tokyo Marathon.

Your wife should be a professional- hardly anyone has good running pics! That was a great one. I love the idea if a smaller marathon. I have only done large races but think I would like to try a smaller one.

So what's your secret for being mentally ready to run again so soon? I usually so mentally exhausted from training for the race, the last thing I want to do for a few days after the "Big Day" is go out and run.

I still can't believe that you can get out there so soon for your recovery runs following the race. Even if you are feeling slow, that's still remarkable. Nice job. Your small marathon sounds nice and flat, I can't wait to hear about it.

That is really fast recovery to be able to run a 10-miler (even if it is slow). Sounds like you're going to do great at the Earth Day Challenge Marathon.

That was a great photo! I'm glad your recovery is going so well. Sounds like you made a good move changing up your race schedule. Maybe that negative split is in your near future!
